Crickhowell Walking Festival 2008
Cwyl Gerdded Crug Hywel

St David's Weekend 1st & 2nd March 2008

This was the first walking festival held in Crickhowell and it proved to be a resounding success with numbers exceeding our expectations.

Over 500 walkers from all over England and Wales joined in our programme of 36 varied walks, spread over 9 days.

The festival walking programme was designed to appeal to all ages and abilities. So whether you were an experienced walker and wanted a full day’s hike across the mountains and moors or were after something gentler then there were walks designed with you in mind.

The full day walks proved very popular and we managed to cover most of the Black Mountains with a selection of walks over the 9 days, all led by experienced local guides from the Brecon Beacons Park Society or the local RAF team. The shorter walks, also led by experienced local guides, didn’t venture as far as the long ones, but managed to explore the hills and vales of this beautiful area. We also had an accessible walk for those with walking difficulties or in a wheel chair.

A feature of the programme was the special interest walks which were all very well attended. We had walks with a local history flavour, a poetry walk (see below), a painting walk and even walks where the language spoken was Welsh!

The 2009 Festival - 28th February to 8th March - is already in the early planning stages and we will be organising even more walks! Watch this space for more information!
