Brecon & District Credit Union

Monday 28th June 2010
Brecon & District Credit Union (BDCU) has now opened its doors to local residents in the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre (CRiC), and B&DCU volunteers are available to customers between 10am and 12 noon every Wednesday. You can find them on the first floor, opposite the Gallery, or give them a call on 01874 620104.
A credit union is best described as a savings and loans organisation, based on co-operative principles. It is set up, owned and run by its members. Credit union members save together and create a pool of money from which low cost loans are made. Credit unions in Wales are growing in popularity, thanks largely to positive press and television coverage.  The movement is well established in many other countries and there are over 118 million CU members world-wide. Brecon & District Credit Union has been running for 15 years, has around 700 adult members, almost 100 junior members, and is still growing.
As well as the CRIC collection point, we are opening a branch in Crickhowell High School for junior members, and hoping to open more (if we can recruit volunteers )
Amongst the host of reasons to join,  BDCU offers a safe and ethical place to save (regulated by the FSA and supported by the Welsh Assembly Government). It gives access to low interest and manageable loans with friendly and efficient advice and service at a local and convenient collection point. The BDCU volunteers  welcome visitors to call in and see them on a Wednesday morning or give them a call for  more information about joining or if you could give some of your time a volunteer.
