Crickhowell & District Horticultural Society, our local group concerned with all things gardening, is busy preparing for two big events in August. The first is a Grand Summer Fayre which will be held on Sunday 15th August in the grounds of Porthmawr House from 12.00 noon to 5.00pm. There will be plenty of entertainment for both young and older with a wide variety of stalls and games, both outdoors and inside the magnificent marquee. Choral music, tea & delicious food and a cookery demonstration by noted local chef, Steven Terry will entertain the older while the children will have their own play area and art activities provided by Arts Alive. Admission to the grounds is £1. The Saturday of the following weekend, 21st August will see the staging of the annual Garden, Craft and Produce Show in Clarence Hall. There are opportunities to enter classes for flowers, vegetables, floral art, crafts, baking & preserves and photography with a special section for children of primary school age. The show will be open to the public from 2.00pm and admission is 50p; tea and cakes will be available in the hall. The Society welcomes all members of the community to take part and would like to encourage as many as possible to join in. Show schedules are available in CRiC, the library, the Post Office and Ray Grenfell’s shop.
