New Acquisitions
Friday 16th September 2011
‘New Acquisitions’ is a chance to display new additions to the Museum’s collection. This will range from exciting new art works, to archaeological finds from around the Roman fortress at Brecon Gaer.
Many of the new art works have been gifted to the Museum by the Contemporary Art Society of Wales and include works by esteemed artists such as Iwan Bala and Chris Nurse.
On the 1st November, Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery will close to the public to make ready for major building works and the creation of a new first floor gallery.
During this closure the museum will be making its second round bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, in order to complete the restoration and redisplay of the entire museum. If they are successful they will therefore not re-open until 2015.
Nigel Blackamore, Senior Curator of Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery says: ‘This exhibition is bitter sweet. We are very excited about displaying our new additions, however, this exhibition marks the last opportunity for our visitors to see their favourite objects for perhaps the next 4 years. We are eager to have the restoration work begin on the building, but we will be sad to close our doors to the public, even on a temporary basis. We hope you take this opportunity to visit your Museum before our doors close for redevelopment. Thank you for your continued support.’
