WAAT4 Challenge Helps Charities

Monday 30th January 2012

The WAAT4 Challenge is a walking event which is held now every year in the Brecon Beacons.  It starts and finishes at Brecon Rugby Club but in between, competitors need to navigate 30km or 40km around the Beacons (which incorporates Pen-y Fan) through a number of checkpoints on route.  It is an arduous event and is for anyone to take part in.  This year teams from various areas of the UK took part and the event proved to be a huge success once again in 2011. Over all, £23,000 was raised and after deductions of bills £19,000 was handed out to the much needed Charities, PC Rathband’s Blue Lamp Foundation, Brecon Mountain Rescue and Wales Air Ambulance. The National Trust also received £1,000 this year to help with the upkeep of the routes and paths over the beacons. Gary Philpott and Mark Doran would like to thank all the sponsors for the event as without their assistance the event would not be as successful as it has been and we hope to continue to have their support for the coming years. This year we hope to make the event bigger and better with Teenage Cancer Trust being one of the recipients.  The event for 2012 will run on the weekend 22nd June and interested parties can contact Gary on 07891786941 for more information.
