The Crickhowell Panthers Girls Football Club have returned from the Youth Friendship Games filled with enthusiasm at what can best be described as a mini Olympic games for young people in terms of the colour, vibrancy and atmosphere which prevailed. The Coaches and parents certainly found the opening ceremony most moving. All of the teams formed up with national flags waving and a placard with each Country's name. The Crickhowell girls did Wales
More than 35 nations in 300 teams were represented in the football section alone. The girls enjoyed playing on immaculate pitches which were fully officiated with matches running like clockwork. The overriding spirit was one of friendship and camaraderie. The Panthers players befriended a couple of American teams in particular. Most of the teams knew about the 'Welsh Girls' because of their distinctive accents and kit.
The Crickhowell Panthers were more than pleased to come away with three wins, three loses and two draws after proving their fitness and skill levels against their opponents.
All of the players and parents look forward to a return visit to this wonderful event and feel that a great deal of thanks needs to go to their Dutch hosts at Haarlem for the first class organisation, friendliness and helpfulness.
