Artists and Makers from Ireland

Thursday 9th July 2009

The oriel cric gallery prides itself on the variety of local and Welsh art which form part of each of the 6 exhibitions during the course of the year. From time to time the gallery does however welcome visiting artists such as several Irish artists whose work will be on offer from the 9th July 2009. Both David Haswell, who produces textured work in acrylics with overlays of watercolour, and Keith Foster with his characteristically bold expressive paintings, are inspired by the Welsh landscape. They are popular regular exhibitors in the gallery. In this exhibition they will be joined by Brid Kenneally, a young Irish Seascape and Landscape artist who lives in her native An Rinn, Dungarvan. Her paintings capture the shapes, reflections and atmosphere of boats on the Irish coastline. The work of Brenda Harris is equally rich in colour.  She paints in oil and watercolour, producing works of exceptional luminosity. An exciting collection of ceramics will be exhibited, ranging from Freda Rupp’s unique tactile unglazed vessels to Amanda Murphy’s hand built range of decorative ceramics that is mainly based on the topography of the landscape.  Amanda uses a combination of glaze, texture, oxides and crushed coloured glass to achieve the effects of rivers and lakes crossing the landscape. Eileen Singleton makes decorative and functional ceramic and mosaic work from her studio in East Cork. Adding to the variety and richness of the exhibition will be the impressive work of award winning basket maker Joe Hogan. He has built a reputation for making baskets of the highest quality in the colours of the natural willows which are grown at Loch na Fooey, where he works. The gallery is also looking forward to displaying the unusual jewellery of Felix Faulkner who uses gold, silver, bronze and brass in her jewellery, sometimes incorporating other interesting materials such as wood and stone. This exhibition will run from 9th July until the 9th September 2009 and is open daily between 10am and 5pm.
