Abergavenny Food Festival Workshops 2009

Thursday 30th July 2009

Arts Alive are getting ready tor their annual Abergavenny Food Festival Workshops with Bettina Reeves. They will take place between 10 am-5pm on 24th-28th August and  1st -15th September. There will however be no workshops on Thursday s and Sundays. Bring lunch to share. The visual feast they  will be preparing for this year's food festival will be inspired by the mountains of Abergavenny with sheep and perhaps a couple of farmers thrown in for good measure. Starting during the week beginning 24th August, there will be a drawing workshop for a day- in order to get those mountains recognisable and to give the sheep some character and movement. This could be on Monday 24th or Tuesday 25th. (Enquire for further details- they will  be watching the weather!)  We will follow this with a couple of full-day workshops to make armatures for the sheep and to make a start on the mountains. Following on from the Arts Alive Quilt, the mountain landscapes will take the form of long narrow banners to hang on the Market Hall pillars. They might do a panoramic view of the mountains, cut into thin vertical slices to accommodate the required banner shape. This should be easy for anybody who worked on the Quilt. It's simple appliqué sewn onto thin strips, by machine or hand. The textile banners should make a gorgeous background for the 3D sheep. So, if you feel like experimenting with some sculptural sheep or a large scale textile banner- or both please come along.  The workshops are hard work and a lot of fun -and there is a wonderful sense of achievement to be had when the thousands of visitors to the festival admire Abergavennys unique display of Public Art.
